Xherdan Shaqiri’s Premier League Stats Prove he’ll be Useful to LFC
Liverpool have completed the £13.75 million signing of Xherdan Shaqiri and he’s set to have a big impact at Anfield.
Signed primarily as a back-up to the Reds’ lethal front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, the Swiss international both endured and enjoyed a mixed 2017/18 campaign.
He was relegated with Stoke City but posted the best attacking numbers of his time in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp described his signing as a “no-brainer”, and here’s some statistics to back that claim up…
He was the leading man at Stoke last season. In a club lacking in quality attacking players, he shone head and shoulders above the rest, topping all of the key categories in the final third.

Shaqiri created 14 ‘big chances’ in the top flight last term – more than anyone at Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah created 12; Sadio Mane 9.
In purely chances created terms, the Swiss winger created 75, again more than anyone at Anfield.
His direct goal involvement of 15 (8 goals, 7 assists) was just one behind Chelsea star Eden Hazard too.

With better attacking players around him at Liverpool, Shaqiri could well outdo these numbers during the 2018/19 season. If we’re to challenge for the Premier League title, we’re going to need him to!
